Travelling Tips: Some small adjustments could really go a long way

Unfortunately, holiday fun can be cut short or even ruined by careless travel habits. Therefore, instead of winding up relaxing on some faraway beach, some of us find ourselves lying in some hotel bed unable to move.

Here’s some suggestions to prevent you spoiling your holiday and winding up at the chiropractor:

1. Pack early & light this especially applies to the ladies (question: do you really need those two suit cases filled with shoes?)

2. Use a suitcase with rollers.

3. Bend and lift the luggage with your knees/legs to protect your back. Even better, have someone else lift your heavy luggage; it’s worth the small cost.

4. Buy and use a travel pillow to support your neck during airline travel and use a lumbar cushion or pillow to support your lower back during airline travel or long road trips.

5. Try to get up and move around during a long flight or make a stop during road travel every hour.

6. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water during the trip.

7. Sleep on your side with a pillow between your knees or on your back with a pillow under your legs. There are different qualities of mattresses, not all are supportive or good for your back

8. Listen to your body: if you get a sudden twinge or pain, generally it’s a good idea to apply ice to the area of complaint for 15-20 minutes as soon as possible to reduce pain or inflammation. If the complaint worsens or lasts longer than 48 hours get checked out before traveling again.
