The Importance of Good Posture.

Advantages of good posture

 

  1. Permits mechanically efficient function of joints. This means minimum wear and tear and less chance of osteo (degenerative) arthritis.

 

  1. Allows organs to function properly. Especially your nerve system (it controls all other systems of your body), respiratory (breathing) circulatory and digestive systems. NB. A slouching/ round shoulder posture compresses your organs making it difficult for them to function correctly.

 

  1.  Requires minimum energy expenditure, good posture is very energy efficient

 

The Ideal Posture- body segments are aligned such that minimum stress or forces is created by gravity.

 

Tips for good posture no matter what you’re doing:

 

Moderation- don’t spend to long doing any one task, take regular breaks and rotate your chores so that you are  not in the same position for too long.

 

Upright and square- No matter what you are doing try to keep your body upright and square on to the task, if you need to bend, use your knees. The more you twist and turn without lifting your feet the greater your chance of injury.
